Cutting laces from leather…Pinwheel method.
A good lace can be cut from a piece of “buckskin”, use Deer, or Elk as it stretches and becomes straight when cut in a circle pattern.
Start at the outer edge and cut with a pair of scissors in a circular motion towards the center, (as shown).
Cut while pulling the round (or square) away from the scissors, making sure to keep it as close to the same width as possible.

When you have cut a lace long enough, just trim the excess (if any) by cutting it off the sides of the lace…
If you started with a ragged piece, there will be “corners” to trim off.
You can taper the ends to suit your needs…
A good thing to remember is to try a small peice of lace by pulling on it…hard enough to see if it will break easily, Deer skin is surprisingly strong and makes good laces.
